  1. Ruby

From the recording Ruby

I wrote this song for my hero, my mom, Ruby Little. My daughter Lauren joined me in the studio and wrote additional lyrics. She also sings with me on the track...
This song is set for a 2020 release on the cd, HOME. HOME is a project wherein I wrote songs with family members, about family members, for family members or songs inspired by family members.
I've been working on the HOME cd in conjunction with a 2019 cd called Here On Earth - both projects at the same time - to keep it fresh and weird!

Lyrics

Ruby rode down on a star that fell to Earth - Twenty years, eleven months, and three weeks before my birth
And although the universe hated giving up that girl - It was easy to see Ruby had to be from some other world
She worked at Ike's chili way back in the late 40's - And danced every night away down at Cains academy
She dated Leon McAuliffe's guitar player it seems - (she came to dance like nothing they'd ever seen) - Ruby never got to realize her dreams - what's lrl saying here?
Chorus
I love my Ruby - She's so wonderful - So beautiful
I see the boys and me - Riding in her car - Up to her star

Ruby drove the basketball team in her Oldsmobile - So many boys in the back - The road never found her front wheels
And the cops had a difficult time trying to explain - (she didn't care or get scared of many things) - How they couldn't catch that crazy lady - Doing wheelies down main - (I caught that Olds on fire and they tried to cut my hair)
Ruby always did for others - It was just her way - And she wouldn't take your money - No matter what you'd say
Uncle Sam came and took her house - Coz she couldn't pay - (she thought the heart was the home - can't take that away) When I tried to explain it she said son it's okay
Chorus
I love my Ruby - She's so wonderful - So beautiful
I see the boys and me - Riding in her car - Up to her star
Coda:
Me and sweet Marie were with her, when she died - We were holding her hands - And both of us cried and cried
Oh mama come back - There's something I forgot to say - It was so cool - You wouldn't leave til you met Bella Ray
